Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force 3: Dueling Beyond Boundaries

Rating: 3.5 out of 5.

Personal Note: Ever wondered what happened to Jaden after the end of the 3rd Season of Yu-Gi-Oh GX? Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force 3 takes place right after that event, lapsing over the entire 4th season of the series. If you haven’t played the 2nd or 1st game or finished the series then I wouldn’t recommend reading any further.

Game Review:

“Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force 3” invites you to embark on a card dueling journey that picks up where the third season of the Yu-Gi-Oh GX series left off. It immerses you in the captivating world of dueling, weaving seamlessly into the fourth season of the series. If you’re a fan of the show and have followed the previous games, this is a must-play. Here’s what makes it a standout title in the Yu-Gi-Oh! franchise.

The Cards:
“Tag Force 3” expands your card collection to a staggering 3501 cards, making it the fourth-largest card pool in any Yu-Gi-Oh game. The addition of anime-only cards like the “Clear” and “Dark” cards adds a layer of excitement for fans. With this vast selection, crafting the ultimate deck becomes an exhilarating challenge.

The Characters:
Returning characters from previous games welcome you back, including Neo-Jaden, Normal Jaden, Syrus, Chazz, Zane, Blair, Alexis, and Bastion. The reduced number of Page 1 characters is explained in the “Story” section below. Page 2 and Page 3 characters, such as Aster Phoenix and Jesse, rejoin the fray, offering varied dueling experiences.

Mini-Games:
The mini-games from the previous installment make a comeback in “Tag Force 3.” These diversions provide opportunities to earn rewards and break up the dueling action. Among them, a new addition called “Bread or Ball” spices up the mix, ensuring that there’s always something fun to engage in.

Destiny Draw System:
The Destiny Draw system returns in this game, offering a lifeline when the duel takes a dire turn. You can select up to 5 cards from your deck as your “Destiny Cards.” When faced with challenging situations such as dwindling life points or a disadvantageous field, you have the once-per-duel chance to draw one of your 5 Destiny Cards at random. If this feature isn’t to your liking, it can be easily turned off.

Gameplay:
Building upon the gameplay of the second game, “Tag Force 3” introduces animated summonings for iconic monsters like the “Blue-Eyes White Dragon,” “Elemental Hero Bladedge” (returning from the first game), and the formidable “Light and Darkness Dragon.” Synchro monsters also make their appearance, offering an exciting twist to the dueling experience. While synchros were present in the first game, they were exceedingly rare.

Playing on Emulators:
For those without access to a physical PSP, you can still enjoy “Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Tag Force 3” on your PC or Android device using the PPSSPP emulator. This versatility allows you to experience the thrill of dueling on your preferred platform, whether it’s the enhanced performance of PC or the convenience of Android.

“Yu-Gi-Oh GX Tag Force 3” isn’t just a game; it’s a continuation of the beloved series that immerses you in the world of dueling like never before. With an expansive card pool, familiar characters, engaging gameplay, and the option to play on emulators, it’s a title that offers hours of entertainment and endless strategic possibilities. Relive the adventures of Jaden and his friends, forge new decks, and challenge rivals in this thrilling card duel extravaganza.
