Batman: Arkham Origis Mobile, developed by NetherRealm Studios and published by Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment, brings the caped crusader’s action-packed world to your mobile device. This free-to-play fighting game is a spin-off of the popular Batman: Arkham series and serves as a companion to the 2013 console game, Batman: Arkham Origins.
Released for iOS on October 16, 2013, and later for Android on July 25, 2014, this mobile game offers a chance to step into Batman’s shoes and combat the criminal underbelly of Gotham City. However, it’s important to note that the game follows the same storyline as its console counterpart and prioritizes arcade-style combat over deep storytelling.
In Arkham Origins Mobile, you’ll find yourself swiping and tapping the screen to execute swift and devastating attacks as Batman. The gameplay relies on combo-based strikes, where timing and precision are key to overcoming your enemies. You can choose between the “Assault” stance for higher damage output or the “Guarded” stance for defense and healing.
Special attacks, such as the Batswarm, Batarang, and Health Boost, add variety to your crime-fighting arsenal. These special moves can turn the tide of battle, either by enhancing your abilities or dealing damage to foes. Keep in mind that enemies can unleash their powerful “Enrage” attacks when damaged significantly, making battles more challenging.
The game introduces a stamina system, which determines how many missions you can complete before needing to recharge. If patience isn’t your virtue, you can use in-game currency to buy more stamina. Batman: Arkham Origins Mobile utilizes two types of currency: WayneTech/Wayne Enterprise points and Upgrade Points. WayneTech points are the premium currency, while Upgrade Points are earned through gameplay.
Upgrades are essential for strengthening Batman’s abilities and unlocking new Batsuits, each with unique perks. Earning and upgrading Batsuits require specific items, which you can obtain by completing missions or using WayneTech points to conduct “Detective Searches” for random items. Batsuit upgrades lead to stat improvements, enhancing aspects like speed and defense.
While the game primarily focuses on its main missions, you’ll also encounter “Most Wanted” missions featuring iconic villains from the Batman universe. Some of these missions culminate in challenging boss battles that require strategic combat skills.
Additionally, unexpected “Ambush” missions can occur at any time, providing an extra layer of excitement to your vigilante duties.
Arkham Origins Mobile, despite its freemium structure and in-app purchases, offers an engaging experience for fans of the Dark Knight. Although it doesn’t deliver the deep storytelling of its console counterparts, it still provides a dose of Batman’s thrilling world in the palm of your hand.
Please note that as of 2021, the game is no longer available for download, but if you’re fortunate enough to have it on your device, you can still enjoy the mobile adventures of the Caped Crusader.
